Commitment to the community’s innovators

Delaware is fortunate to have so many nonprofit agencies providing services to keep our communities vibrant. We enjoy the parks, waterways, cultural events and historic preservation within our towns. Our children have access to summer and after school programming to help them explore science, learn art and improve their reading. Our older residents find friendships at community centers or with a furry friend. We are fortunate to have many different education opportunities from preschool to post-doctorate, and can access care for our mental and physical well-being. Many interest groups mobilize to champion those who are disenfranchised, to help build houses, or clean up the community.
Nonprofits are community’s innovators. They are formed by the community to benefit the community, and they need the community to support them. DANA, the Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement’s mission is to help nonprofits in Delaware with best practices and resources to help nonprofit boards and leadership to develop strategies processes to deliver their services as effectively and efficiently as possible. We offer training and consulting services on board practices, financial management and planning, and we connect nonprofits to each other so they can partner together.
However, ultimately it is community resources that will determine the success of the nonprofit agency. Time, talent and treasure are necessary for these community-impact groups to remain vibrant and sustainable. Our hope is that this guide introduces the reader to new nonprofits, inspires them to want to get involved and share their gifts.
