(AP) - Delaware Technical Community College has received a grant of nearly $2 million to build a new automotive training center on its Georgetown campus.

Sen. Tom Carper made the announcement Friday with Delaware Tech President Mark Brainard and Sussex County Economic Development Director William Plaff.

The project will build a 13,500 square-foot automotive center. It will include two classrooms, a tool room and two training garages.

Officials say it is expected to create or protect nearly 90 jobs and generate $1.5 million for the state's economy.

Officials say the total cost is about $3 million. The grant covers about 65 percent of the construction. Local organizations and individuals have pledged donations that enable the college to secure the 35 percent.
