Any sports lover would likely agree that, when it comes to broadcasting, quality is key. For more than a decade and amid the challenges of a global pandemic, iHeartMedia’s Scott Klatzkin has strived to do that and more for Delaware Blue Hens fans.
This mark’s Klatzkin’s 11th season as the “Voice of the Delaware Blue Hens,” for all University of Delaware football and basketball games. He’s been recognized by the National Sports Media Association as the top sports broadcaster in the state five times, most recently in January 2021. Klatzkin is one of only two people – the other being UD athletics’ Bob Kelley – to have received the honor in three separate decades since the award began in 1959.
For the last 15 years, Klatzkin also has served as a marketing executive with iHeartMedia, developing trusting relationships with local businesses. Despite the challenges of 2020, Klatzkin was recognized by the company as its top account executive in Delaware and was named to the iHeartMedia President’s Club for the second time in three years.
The native Delawarean said he enjoys the community connection in both roles, being able to tell the stories of student-athletes as a broadcaster and by working closely with local businesses to help them grow and achieve their goals as a marketing executive.
In his free time, Klatzkin works with several nonprofits, including the Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with intellectual disABILITIES (DFRC), Special Olympics, Sean’s House and the SL24 UnLocke the Light Foundation volunteering as a broadcaster and emcee for special events like Special Olympics’s annual Delaware Summer Games.
The avid sports fan and father of two joins his wife, Laura Klatzkin, as a DBT40 honoree. She was recognized in 2020 for her accomplishments with March of Dimes.
