The Fearless Girl statue that went viral after it was placed in front of Wall Street’s iconic bronze bull under cover of night Tuesday was sculpted by Lewes artist Kristen Visbal, according to a Cape Gazette report.

Visbal, whose studio is at Lewes’ Nassau Valley Vineyards, cast the bronze statue of a confident young girl facing the bull in celebration of International Women’s Day yesterday.

She created it in collaboration with State Street Global Advisors and McCann New York.

The 50-inch high bronze statue will stand at the intersection of Broadway and Morris Streets at least temporarily, because its backers secured a permit to install it. It was cast at the New Arts Foundry in Baltimore.

The “Charging Bull” itself, now an iconic symbol on Wall Street, was first placed in the financial district as a piece of guerrilla art in 1989. Arthuro Di Modica, the artist, called the 3.5-ton statue a Christmas gift to New Yorkers. It was eventually moved to Broadway’s south end. New Yorkers liked it so much that it has remained there for 28 years.
