The Delaware Department of Agriculture has awarded $17,000 in grants to urban agriculture and community garden projects across the state. The New Castle Conservation District pledged an additional $10,000 to projects in the county.
“We are extremely grateful for these grants,” said Mary Steppi a volunteer with Elsmere Community Garden who received a grant last year. “These gardens fill a niche by providing fresh produce to people who do not have transportation to farmers’ markets."
