Title: Executive DirectorWorkplace: JPMorgan ChaseAge: 39When John Davis was a child emigrating from Hong Kong with his mother, he did not speak any English. It really wasn’t until he started working as a telemarketer that he gained the confidence and drive that would propel him into a successful career in banking. The executive director now leads JPMorgan Chase’s Analytics and Recessionary Readiness team for the bank’s $140 billion credit card portfolio. His team provides portfolio analytics, risk and recessionary readiness and competitor insights that offer business intelligence that is vital during the unprecedented times created by the COVID-19 pandemic. After finding his spark in that entry-level position at MBNA, Davis was promoted to management before he turned 20, became a senior vice president by 30 and executive director by 35. During that time, he also pursued an MBA at the University of Maryland, where he graduated at the top of his class. Through the long nights and weekends of work created by the pandemic, Davis has challenged his team to deliver exceptional results as they navigated the impact of COVID on Chase’s card business and consumers. The path to success wasn’t always clear for Davis, and it definitely wasn’t easy. That’s why he also passionately serves on the board of directors at Connecting Generations, a Delaware nonprofit that provides in-school mentoring to at-risk students. The organization reaches more than 4,000 Delaware students in more than 90 schools throughout the state each year. During the pandemic, Davis also took on the role of board vice president for Connecting Generations.Throughout his two-decade-plus career, Davis has worked in many areas of the banking world, from front-line call centers to product development to stress testing and credit risk strategies. That firsthand experience across different areas of the industry have helped him as a senior leader.
