Giant Food on October 14 announced the refresh of its home delivery service brand, formerly known as Peapod by Giant. The new name is Giant Delivers and is a part of Giant Food's "The Little Things Are Giant" platform, which seeks to make buying groceries less time-consuming for customers through a suite of technology services and pick-up and delivery options.
Giant Food is headquartered in Landover, Maryland and operates 163 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia with approximately 20,000 associates.
"Giant has been the trusted neighborhood grocery store for over 80 years, and we are continually looking for new ways to serve our community's evolving needs and shopping preferences," said Ira Kress, interim president of Giant Food. "Building out our eCommerce services, including Giant Delivers and Giant Pickup, lets us truly put the 'solution' in meal solutions. We handle the picking and packing, delivering straight to car or doorstep, giving our shoppers that extra helping hand they need."
Earlier this year, the grocery chain also launched Giant Pickup, which allows customers to place grocery orders online and pick them up in as little as four hours. Pickup is available at over 65 locations, with a total 100 locations to open in Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia and Delaware by the end of the year.
Users of Peapod will not experience any interruption of services. Newly branded Giant Delivers trucks hit the streets today. While the deliveries are available without a subscription, customers can sign up for unlimited deliveries for a one-time annual fee of $99.
