Artesian Resources Corporation operates as a holding company and is the eighth largest investor-owned water utility in the US by total capitalization. Artesian Water Company, the principal subsidiary, is the oldest and largest regulated utility on the Delmarva Peninsula and has been providing water service in Delaware since 1905. Artesian’s mission is to provide consistently high-quality, reliable water in an economical way. Artesian continuously works with partners in business and government to develop new, innovative solutions as part of its Total Water Resource Management approach, which emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices to ensure the wise use and continued protection of precious water resources. Although Artesian’s water business remains its largest business sector, accounting for nearly 90% of total revenues, Artesian has extended its capabilities and service area to provide wastewater service in Delaware and water service in Cecil County, Maryland and nearby portions of Chester County, Pennsylvania.
What have been the biggest factors that contributed to your company’s growth?
Our most critical responsibility is to reliably deliver safe, high-quality water to the growing population we serve across the Delmarva Peninsula. To this end, we invested $11.5 million during 2018 in new sources of supply and new treatment capabilities in strategic growth areas where demand for residential and commercial water service has been increasing. More than 60 new phases of residential and commercial development have commenced throughout our service territory. In Delaware, both Sussex County and southern New Castle County are strategic growth areas for us.
