At a national level, President Donald Trump and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg have taken the lead in raising money for Q2 (April 1 through June 30) at about $105 million and $24.8 million, respectively. Trailing closely behind Buttigieg is Joe Biden, the former vice president and long-running Delaware senator, with $21.5 million. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders raked in $19.1 and $18 million, respectively, while California Sen. Kamala Harris raised nearly $12 million.
But in Delaware, it’s a different story. While in the first quarter it looked as though President Trump and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker would be the leaders in raising money with $17,139 and $11,150, respectively, Biden’s entry into the race on April 25, 24 days after the second quarter began, completely disrupted the fundraising space.
In the second quarter, Biden led fundraising with $296,640, with Donald Trump trailing behind him with $50,562. Cory Booker has fallen back as well, letting candidates like Buttigieg, Warren, Sanders and Harris take over.
Within this spread, you will see a detailed breakdown of how Delaware is financing the current 2020 presidential campaigns. Some details you might expect, like Biden raising the most money both overall and in the second quarter, and some surprises, like Buttigieg raising a considerable sum in Sussex County. With the Democratic primary just heating up, we can only expect more surprises ahead.
