She had to be air-lifted to Christiana Hospital and then spent weeks undergoing medical care at Nemours. Despite the traumatic experience, Pasricha witnessed dedicated doctors, nurses and physical therapists working to make her better. It inspired her from a young age to pursue a career in medicine.Now, as a practicing gastroenterologist, Pasricha works to heal her patients and improve accessibility in quality health care. She initiated and organized an annual GI symposium at the very place she was airlifted as a child, providing the latest gastrointestinal information to Delaware health providers. She’s also a member of ChristianaCare’s Internal Medicine Residency Education Committee, offering lectures and training opportunities for medical residents.Pasricha was pregnant during the COVID-19 pandemic and home-schooled her other children while pivoting to implement telemedicine so she could safely treat patients remotely. She also used social media to dispel medical myths, encourage patients to follow federal health guidelines and encourage folks to get vaccinated.As the co-founder of a nonprofit organization called Global Youth Health Education Leadership Program, or H.E.L.P., Pasricha educates children, families and seniors about the importance of healthy dietary choices, gut health and movement and exercise. She’s given several healthy lifestyle educational talks at ChristianaCare, the Delaware YWCA and Reeds’ Refuge Center.She organizes an annual school backpack donation program and works to empower young girls through events like the “Girls Can Do Anything” conference.Pasricha has twice been invited to the White House as a recipient of national awards. She is the first one on the dance floor, an enthusiastic karaoke singer and once completed a 10-day Vipassana silent meditation retreat.
