At the Delaware Community Foundation, we are focused on helping the community improve quality of life in the First State by expanding opportunities for all - opportunities such as access to high-quality education, a rich culture, employment, health care a safe and healthy environment - and ultimately enhancing the common good.

To advance that work, we partner with generous people who have a passion for Delaware and are excited about working with others to make a difference through philanthropy.

We leverage our knowledge of Delaware and charitable giving tools, combined with our relationships, to empower philanthropy for maximum impact. 

Engaging communities

We envision a Delaware where generosity expands opportunity for all, and we strive to engage the whole community in realizing that vision.

A core part of this work is serving as a convener and facilitator. We bring together key players from the private and public sectors - leaders from businesses, nonprofits, government agencies and others - to participate in important conversations about issues affecting quality of life in our communities and how to expand opportunity. 

We engage these community builders around the greatest needs and opportunities in our community, from the arts and education to housing and workforce development. We shine a light on important issues through objective data and information - supported by data at our community indicator website, DelawareFocus.org - and we tell stories of what's working in Delaware. Most importantly, we connect those serving the community with passionate philanthropists, maximizing the impact of their giving.

Through our Community Impact Grants program, we make direct grants to initiatives throughout the state that demonstrate the greatest potential for impact. Past grants have resulted in important initiatives including the Coalition to End Hunger and the Delaware Aging Network. 

The DCF works to continuously grow the number of people engaged in philanthropy. Through our Youth Philanthropy Board program and Next Generation giving circles, we nurture the next generation of people who care about Delaware. Through the Fund for Women and the African American Empowerment Fund for Delaware, we work to engage more Delawareans in the joy and impact achieved through collective philanthropy.

Since 1986, the DCF has been helping individuals, families and businesses give to the community and establish legacies through charitable funds. We offer deep expertise in a range of charitable giving tools to help philanthropists maximize the tax advantages and community impact for their giving.

We strive to partner with donors who want to help us build a permanent source of charitable resources for Delaware. As our community needs evolve and grow, the DCF will be here ready to serve. 

Under the DCF's stewardship and management, the charitable funds established by generous people grow and channel money into the community, in the form of grants and scholarships that expand opportunity and transform lives, now and in the future. 

We also partner with professional advisers to help their clients achieve their charitable goals. Hand in hand with financial planners, estate attorneys, accountants and other advisers, the DCF provides charitably inclined people with the power to make a lasting impact.
