Breslin Contracting Inc. is a general contracting firm that strives to handle all aspects of the construction process. Tracy A. Filliben, whose maiden name is Breslin, teamed up with sister Terry L. Suess and first cousin Mike Parodi to take over the business from the founders, Pat and Pete Breslin. Terry left behind three decades of teaching to join the company,
and Tracy came on after getting laid off from DuPont in 1999.
While the new owners struggled at first to clarify their roles, they came up with a fresh plan after meeting with consultants who gave each executive a clear set of tasks in managing the company. Tracy deals with sales, including bidding and developing partnerships. Terry focuses on data and performance, and Mike is in charge of operations and field work.
“We have grown proficient at providing the words needed to sell each of our own perspectives, and we all want what’s best for the company,” Filliben said. “I feel as though we have a strong ownership team with a great group of guys working hard to keep Breslin the fine, quality company it is.”
Joseph Filliben, Tracy’s son, and Matt Breslin, Tracy and Terry’s nephew, are next in line to take over. Each of them plan to first complete some college courses and work in the company office to train for their leadership roles. Devin Filliben, who will have his MBA in May, will join the ranks as well.
