Position: Director of Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis
Employer: The Chemours Company
Age: 39
Brandon Ontjes never anticipated that his professional career would keep him in Wilmington, but he’s so glad it did. As the director of corporate financial planning & analysis and chemical solutions for
The Chemours Company, whose headquarters is in downtown Wilmington, Ontjes has been able to witness and participate in the city’s economic development.
Before arriving at Chemours, Ontjes was a senior manager at Ernst & Young, where he led an audit of one of the largest and most challenging IPO/mergers in 2015: the energy services and delivery company Avangrid. Afterwards, Ontjes transitioned into a lead technical accounting role at Chemours and was subsequently promoted several times until reaching his current senior finance role.
The pandemic has proven to be a challenging time to lead, but Ontjes also found that it has brought his team closer together. As his team works remotely, Ontjes has been able to connect with them more on an interpersonal level as he gets to see their home offices and families.
Ontjes has attended Brandywine Valley Baptist Church in North Wilmington since he was a child, when he participated in mission trips and led Vacation Bible School for young children. He currently serves as a member of the church’s board, participates in prayer walks in the city, and helps the Sunday Breakfast Mission.
Ontjes is a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Dave Matthews, an annual attendee of the Clifford Brown jazz festivals, and one of the biggest customers at Stanley’s Tavern in North Wilmington. Ontjes, his wife Amanda, and their four children are active in their church and love spending time down at Sea Colony in Bethany Beach.
