Planet Fitness, a national chain and franchisor of fitness centers, announced this weeks plans to open a gym in New Castle County at 2201 Farrand Dr.
The 22,000-square-foot fitness center will include a full suite of cardio and strength equipment as well as amenities such as massage chairs and tanning beds.
In addition, this will be the second Planet Fitness location to host a Judgement Free Zone, which aims to create a workout environment that's supportive and non-intimidating.
"We're thrilled to extend our Judgement Free fitness experience in Wilmington, and we encourage everyone to come check out the new club, meet our friendly staff, get a tour and see what the Judgement Free Zone is all about," said Mike Hochniuk, director of corporate club operations at Planet Fitness.
Planet Fitness will celebrate the opening on Monday, January 22 with a ribbon cutting and the presentation of a $2,000 check to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. The nonprofit has partnered with Planet Fitness to encourage more youth to exercise.
Founded in Dover in 1992, Planet Fitness has 1,432 stores in 49 states. More than 95 percent are owned by independent business owners.
