Delawareans continued to put their money behind former Vice President Joe Biden in the fourth quarter of 2019, donating $383,003 to his campaign – more than 12 times more than former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who raised nearly $31,000, according to Federal Elections Commission data.
Biden raised $912,430 in Delaware in 2019 after entering the race during the second quarter. By comparison, Buttigieg brought in $84,642 from the First State while Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren each raised around $50,000.
Individual contributor data for President Donald Trump was not available at the time of writing this story. It will be added when available.
Biden’s total came from 2,494 individual contributors, including 47 Delawareans who donated the maximum $2,800. U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar was the only other candidate to receive a maximum donation from a Delaware donor during the fourth quarter.
Among the six candidates who are still in the race as of Feb. 17 and invited to participate in the Nevada debate:
- Buttigieg raised $30,969 on 555 individual contributions in the fourth quarter.
- Sanders, of Vermont, raised $25,350 on 991 individual contributions in the fourth quarter.
- Klobuchar, of Minnesota, raised $16,663 on 205 individual contributions in the fourth quarter.
- Warren, of Massachusetts, raised $15,409 on 420 individual contributions in the fourth quarter.
- Tom Steyer did not raise any money in Delaware, according to the FEC site. The California billionaire is self-funding his campaign.
Of the 5,120 individual donations from Delawareans – and many residents made multiple donations – 2,153 were under $20, with Biden claiming 888 (41%) of those and Sanders and Buttigieg following him with 534 and 241, respectively.
At the county level:
- New Castle: $411,431 from 3,514 contributions. Biden got 83% of that ($342,431) on 1,850 individual contributions, with Sanders getting $19,703 on 698 individual contributions.
