Dr. Tony Allen[/caption]
Tony Allen has joined the Economic and Community Advisory Council (ECAC) of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.
Dr. Allen was one of two new appointments announced in December. The Federal Reserve Bank also named John E. Harmon Sr., founder/CEO of the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey, to serve on the Council
The ECAC is a committee that informs the bank’s senior leadership team about emerging issues and market conditions in the Third Federal Reserve District and nationwide. The Council is compose of up to 15 leaders representing businesses of varying sizes and in different industry sectors as well as nonprofit organizations, philanthropic organizations, academic institutions, the public sector, and organized labor. The ECAC extends partnerships with organizations from the private and public sectors and fosters greater integration and collaboration to have a broader impact on the Third Federal Reserve District and to encourage economic growth.

Dr. Andy Goberdhan[/caption]
Andy Goberdhan MD, has joined Hematology-Oncology at Saint Francis Healthcare in Wilmington. Goberdhan is a fellowship-trained oncologist with experience in surgical services. Dr. Goberdhan served as surgical house officer at Nazareth Hospital before pursuing additional training in internal medicine and oncology. In 2016, he was awarded the Outstanding Internal Medicine resident award from Mercy Catholic Medical Center.
“We are excited to have Dr. Goberdhan lead our nationally accredited oncology program at Saint Francis Healthcare and continue our tradition of clinical excellence and compassionate care,” said Brandon S. Harvath, President and Chief Operating Officer of Saint Francis Healthcare in a statement. "Our cancer program at Saint Francis is accredited by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer, a designation that speaks to the program's comprehensive nature and the high quality of care delivered."
Dr. Goberdhan's research on cancer has been published in professional journals such as
The Journal of the National Cancer Institute. His research encompassed such topics as breast cancer, HPV, and head and neck squamous cell carcinomas. Dr. Goberdhan received his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia.
November election winners took office on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, during a swearing-in ceremony held in the Sussex County Council chambers in Georgetown.
Cynthia C. Green of Greenwood was sworn in as the new 2
nd district Council member, leaving her post as Register of Wills to replace retiring member Samuel R. Wilson Jr., and
Mark G. Schaeffer of Lewes was sworn in to the 3
rd district seat, replacing one-term member Irwin G. Burton III. Returning Councilman
Michael H. Vincent, as well as Clerk of the Peace
Norman A. ‘Jay’ Jones, also took their oaths of office to begin new four-year terms.

Sussex County Council for 2021-2023[/caption]
Following the swearing-in ceremony, County Council selected officers for 2021, naming Councilman Vincent of Seaford to another year as president, while choosing Councilman John L. Rieley of Millsboro as vice president.
It is customary for council at the first meeting of each year to elect officers and appoint legal staff. As Council president, Mr. Vincent will continue to preside over all council meetings in 2021, with Mr. Rieley substituting as the presiding officer anytime Mr. Vincent is unable to attend.
Council also approved J. Everett Moore Jr. to re-appointment as County Attorney. Mr. Moore serves at the pleasure of the County Council as the elected body’s chief counsel. Meantime, staff from the Moore & Rutt and Parkowski, Guerke & Swayze law firms will represent the Board of Adjustment and Planning & Zoning Commission respectively as assistant county attorneys.

James Spadola[/caption]
James Spadola was sworn in as Wilmington Council Member At-Large on Jan. 5, 2021 after winning the at-large seat reserved for the minority party by the largest margin in City history. A testament to his work in the community over the years, Councilmember Spadola is the President of the Delaware Avenue Community Association, a member of the 1504 N Broom St Condo Association, a REACH Riverside Board member, the outgoing chair of the Wilmington Housing Authority, as well as a member of the 8th District Neighborhood Planning Council.
Councilmember Spadola got his start in public service after 9/11, when he enlisted in the US Army Reserves shortly as a freshman at the University of the Delaware. He received the Combat Action Badge for his year-long tour in Iraq.
Spadola is the Executive Director for a statewide nonprofit fighting childhood illiteracy, Read Aloud Delaware. He previously served with the Newark Police Department, and created several community outreach initiatives, most notably the viral #HugACop video which won Technically Delaware’s Best Social Media Venture, and was replicated across the country by multiple police departments.
Councilmember Spadola won the Outstanding Young Wilmingtonian award from the Wilmington Jaycees in 2015, and was a Delaware Business Times “40 Under 40” recipient in 2016. He received a B.A. in Political Science with honors from the University of Delaware in 2007, a Master’s of Business Administration from Wilmington University in 2014, and completed Leadership Delaware in 2018.

D'Alonzo served Friess Associates for more than 30 years, growing the company from a staff of five to more than 40 through even the most tumultuous of financial times including the tech-stock bubble, the 9/11 attack, war in the
Middle Eastand the Great Recession. He is an accomplished investor managing both financial and land assets with a deep commitment to and success with conserving land and restoring wildlife habitat. Mr. D'Alonzo owns and operates five farms, all of which are in Conservation or Agriculture Easements. Four of the farms are on the Eastern Shore of
Maryland and one is in
Delaware.
Joseph most recently served as CEO of Hartford HealthCare (HHC) a large, highly integrated regional health care delivery system. Under his leadership of 11 years, HHC grew annual revenue from
$1 billion to
$4.2 billion. He chairs the Advisory Board for Press Ganey, the board of Health Insights and also serves McKinsey as a faculty member for the Bower Forum.
Mills is the CEO of VMD Ventures focused on investing in entrepreneurs in a variety of technology and service industries. He is the former Chairman and CEO of ZeroChaos, a leading global provider of workplace management solutions, transforming the way Fortune 1000 companies acquire and manage their outside contingent labor. Prior to ZeroChaos, he held various executive positions in general management and corporate development with leading internet-based HR and technology companies. He was formerly Director and General Manager for one of AT&T's (then Ameritech's) emerging technology business units.
The Sussex County Association of Realtors (SCAOR) recently held their annual Installation and Awards ceremony on December 11, 2020.
During the Sussex County Association of Realtors' (SCAOR) Installation and Awards, outgoing 2020 President
Sandi Bisgood thanked those who served with her during the past year, recapping what a journey the year 2020 had been. Incoming 2021 President
Chrissy Steele was sworn in and gave her inaugural remarks where she committed to living and working with purpose – with intention in 2021. Several awards were given out including the President’s Award of Recognition which went to
Alison Stine and the Affiliate of the Year award given to
Denise and Bill McCormick of CK Capital Management.
Additionally, three other awards were given out. The Alma Ashley Outstanding Rental Service Award is given to someone who is committed, not only to the rental industry, but also to the general community in which they live, and was presented to
Adriane Gallagher. Adriane was also presented with the Realtors of the Year award, which is given to a member who exemplifies the Realtors image and goes beyond the call of duty. This person is typically involved in their local and state associations, possess numerous business accomplishments, along with civic activity and National Association of Realtors activity and most importantly they exemplify the Realtors spirit. Adriane was chosen not only because of her work on safely reopening the short-term rental industry this past spring, but also because of her dedication and hard work with Sussex Strong.

Finally, the Good Neighbor award was presented to
Christine McCoy. The Good Neighbor award is presented to a member who has made extraordinary commitments to improving the quality of life in their community. It is said of Christine McCoy, by her nominator, “She strives to be supportive of other local businesses. Most recently, Christine started Southern Sussex Small Business Support Network to bring local businesses together during COVID and beyond. This group is designed to match companies with business planning, technology or financial resources with companies who are struggling to make it in the new COVID world.”
Sam Eathington Ph.D., a highly experienced agricultural scientist with extensive expertise in developing cutting-edge technology, has begun his role with Corteva as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, effective
January 1, 2021. Eathington has responsibility for the Company's industry-leading portfolio of products and technology and spearheading global agricultural innovation and sustainability. Eathington joins Corteva from The Climate Corporation (part of Bayer Crop Science) where he was Chief Science Officer. He spent nearly two decades focused on quantitative traits and molecular breeding at Monsanto.

Eathington holds more than 50 patents, patent applications and publications and is an expert contributor to numerous periodicals. He is a sixth-generation
Illinois farmer and his family has been farming the same land for 150 years. He holds a B.S. in agronomy, an M.S. in soybean breeding and genetics and a Ph.D. in quantitative genetics and maize breeding, all from the
University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Loré L. Baker, a dedicated Commercial Lines Claims Advocate for Arthur Hall Insurance, has had the Associate of Claims (AIC) designation conferred upon them as she successfully passed the national examination for this significant designation.
Developed by the Institutes with support from the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters, the Associate in Claims is a nationally recognized educational program for claims, and provides the holder with insight of how the industry, and specifically claims operations, interact within the insurance industry, the public and the legal system.
With more than 30 year industry experience, Lore began her career as an insurance defense paralegal. She progressed to claims where she has held positions of adjuster, manager and claims advocate. She resides in Downingtown and is active in a number of community service organizations.
