Bancroft Construction oversaw work on the Tower at STAR, which has 120,000 square feet of flexible program space for the University of Delaware College of Health Sciences. Here, the next generation of health care professionals will learn in collaborative environments. Another Delaware company, Ralph G. Degli Obizzi & Sons, completed HVAC and plumbing work for the Tower within two years — a challenging task for the tallest building in Newark.

DiSabatino Construction oversaw work on the Christiana Hospital Hybrid Operating Room, which was an exciting and challenging project that brings a new and revolutionary surgery to Delaware for the first time. This high-tech project was finished on time and on budget by DiSabatino and the project team.

Formerly a brownfield site with unsuitable, rocky soil that went through conditioning and remediation, 101 Avenue of the Arts is now a luxury apartment community on the Riverwalk in Wilmington. During the building process, which was overseen by LC Construction, the safety of the community was kept in mind with covered sidewalks.
Battaglia Electric assisted with design and construction of all electrical systems for the hospital facility. Embracing the ongoing typical challenges through construction, the electrical service, controls and devices were successfully implemented on time and on budget.
BPGS Construction managed construction for DE.CO, which is a food hall located in Wilmington’s DuPont Building. The project involved the demolition of existing office/retail space and the outfitting of an atrium bar, dining area, restrooms, dishwasher room and eight stalls.

Whiting-Turner managed this project through an “Integrated Project Delivery” (IPD) agreement, which emphasizes collaboration between all participants to stay on schedule and budget. The quality of construction and challenges of coordination were overcome with attention to detail and on-site design management. The enormous HVAC, medical gas and emergency electrical components were woven into the schedule to achieve completion on time and on budget.
Side by side with The Buccini/Pollin Group, M & S Painting worked on the 76ers Fieldhouse, a new facility that houses Titus Training Center, Nemours Sports Medicine and the 76ers affiliate Blue Coats. This massive construction project resulted in a 161,000-square-foot complex with a 2,500-seat arena and three full-sized, NBA-regulated basketball courts.
Crystal Steel Fabricators supplied steel and other miscellaneous metals for the building’s structure, as well as assisting with the design process before construction began. Steel components of the hospital facility include a staircase with glass rails, an exterior bench system, a large grating platform with stairs and rails, and exposed structural steel columns. Crystal Steel employed Side Plate® in the structural steel design, which reduced overall tonnage, minimized required connections and accelerated erector time, ensuring the team met the very aggressive construction schedule.
The infrastructure component of the project encompassed more than 1,100 parking spots and all the infrastructure needed to connect to local roadways. The hospital has parking and other storage below grade, and there was a concern that excessive rain or an unusually high water table could cause damage. A stormwater pump station was built and is currently pumping nearly daily to help control the groundwater surrounding the building.
