The Delaware Technology Park (DTP) is a recognized leading East Coast nonprofit research park. DTP serves development-stage life science, information technology, advanced materials, fintech and renewable energy companies, providing them with access to the resources and connections needed to drive and accelerate their economic success.
DTP’s mission is to stimulate economic growth and create high-value jobs in the Mid-Atlantic region by providing affordable state-of-the-art facilities, access to necessary resources and connections to the region’s industry, government and academic leaders.
Altogether, DTP has helped facilitate more than 16,000 jobs for Delaware’s economy, both within the park and around the area. The cumulative private investments and academic and company research grants have exceeded $1 billion.
In 2016, DTP’s footprint expanded with DTP@STAR, an incubator on STAR Campus, for Delaware’s most promising young lab companies. The incubator offers access to world-renowned research facilities and faculty as well as student interns. To date, 24 new companies have started there, with new technologies in chemistry, therapeutics, materials and software. DTP@STAR tenants/graduates have created over 300 full-time jobs and raised over $1.3 billion; four of them have gone public. “DTP@STAR represents a model of an academic, public and private partnership to further research and economic development through support of early-stage companies,” says DTP President and CEO J. Michael Bowman.
In 2022, DTP opened a 100,000-square-foot FinTech Innovation Hub on STAR Campus. The mission of the building tenants is to help understand and create solutions to the challenges of financial health and equity of underserved communities. The building is 90% leased. UD’s College of Engineering and Lerner College of Business and Economics will occupy half of the building and the other half will be for early-stage companies involved in financial services and the digital sciences, such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and predictive analytics for application across many markets such as health and environment. Conference and restaurant amenities will be included in the building.
The tremendous success of DTP is possible because of its strategic alignment with the State, the University of Delaware, and the private sector. In 2005, the Association of University Research Parks (AURP) recognized DTP as the Outstanding Research/Science Park of the Year.
