President Joe Biden has nominated Rita Landgraf for assistant secretary for aging in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Landgraf joined the University of Delaware’s College of Health Sciences in 2017 as Professor of Practice and Distinguished Health and Social Services Administrator in Residence. She also serves as director of the UD Partnership for Healthy Communities, a cross-college, cross-state initiative. 

From 2009 to 2017, Landgraf served as secretary of the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services under Gov. Jack Markell. She is also the former president of AARP Delaware, the former executive director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness Delaware, and the former executive director of the Arc of Delaware.

Nemours Children’s Hospital welcomed Ali Mirza Onder, MD, to the Department of Pediatrics as chief, Division of Nephrology. Dr. Onder has specific expertise and interest in catheter-related bacteremia in long-term hemodialysis catheters and acute kidney injury following cardiac surgery. He is a native of Istanbul, Turkey, and earned his medical degree at Uludag University, Faculty of Medicine, Bursa, Turkey.

 Before joining Nemours, Onder worked in pediatric nephrology at Children’s of Mississippi and was an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Mississippi, Department of Pediatrics. He is an author, editor and reviewer for a number of medical journals, with a specific focus on infectious complications of hemodialysis vascular access, outcomes of permanent vascular access and cardiac surgery associated-acute kidney injury.

  Dr. Onder completed his initial pediatric residency at Marmara University Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey; followed by his pediatric internship and residency at Miami Children’s Hospital, Miami, Florida; and his pediatric nephrology fellowship at University of Miami / Holtz Children’s Hospital, Department of Pediatric Nephrology, Miami, Florida. He is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric nephrology.

Mercury® Financial LLC announced Susan Steinthal the chief legal officer. Steinthal brings a wealth of expertise to the role, having served in a number of senior leadership capacities. Most recently, as EVP & deputy general counsel at Citizens Bank, Steinthal headed up the Client Advisory Services Legal team covering the Consumer and Commercial Banking lines of business, as well as Business Services and Corporate Development. Before joining Citizens, Steinthal’s legal savvy was recognized in her more than 11 years at Citigroup, where she started as a member of the institutional litigation group before serving as chief of staff to the general counsel and as general counsel for the International Retail Banking business.

WSFS Financial Corporation announced Christine E. Davis as the executive vice president, chief risk officer. In her new role, she will lead all risk management functions including credit administration, credit risk management, enterprise risk management, real estate services, asset recovery, legal, internal audit, loan review, and regulatory compliance. 

Davis has been with WSFS for nearly 23 years, holding many different roles within internal audit. In her most recent role as chief auditor, she directed and oversaw the continuous development and implementation of a comprehensive and effective Internal Audit Program throughout the organization, including its subsidiary companies. 

John E. Kveragas, Jr. will assume the role of senior vice president, chief auditor. Kveragas has more than 20 years of auditing experience and most recently served as the Chief Audit Officer for Bryn Mawr Trust. Kveragas is a CPA, a certified information systems auditor and holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Bloomsburg University, a graduate certificate in business management from University of Delaware, and an MBA from West Chester University.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) announced Michael Marquardt, CEO of Global Kompass Strategies, Inc., the chairman of the American Cancer Society’s Board of Directors.

Marquardt, who has served on the American Cancer Society Board since 2018, also served as chair of the American Cancer Societys former South Atlantic Division Board, received the Societys St. George National Award in 2017, and has served on the advocacy affiliate American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Board of Directors since 2014. His connection to the cancer mission is deeply personal, tragically having lost his first wife to cancer at age 30 after she faced two different types of cancer for 18 months.
