Wilmington mayor-elect names fire chief, acting police chief

WILMINGTON (AP) — Wilmington’s Mayor-Elect Mike Purzycki has named a new fire chief and made other appointments ahead of his inauguration.

On Friday, Purzycki, a Democrat, named Deputy Chief Michael Donohue to lead the Wilmington Fire Department.

Police Chief Bobby Cummings will be Acting Chief of Police until a new chief is selected during a nationwide search.

Kevin Kelley Sr., who ran against Purzycki for the nomination, will be the director of the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Purzycki will be sworn in on Tuesday.
