Mayor Mike Purzycki, who included city beautification as one of his campaign promises last November, announced the first phase of a “Beautiful City Initiative” last night that will wash down city streets, paint crosswalks, and landscape major corridors.
Purzycki, in a videotaped message, said work crews will be dispatched before business hours to clean city gateways with water-flushing trucks and sweep smaller neighborhood streets by hand. He said major thoroughfares like North East Boulevard and Martin Luther King Boulevard will be landscaped.
The city has already started painting crosswalks, replacing water hydrants and erecting new signs.
Purzycki said the city will promote recycling to save on trash removal costs and improve the environment.
