Wilmington to host Ladybug Music Festival this weekend

Mayor Mike Purzycki is calling for all music lovers to attend the annual Ladybug Music Festival this weekend in downtown Wilmington.

Purzycki joined Gayle Dillman and Jeremy Hebbel of Gable Music Ventures to help get the word out about the free, two-day festival. The event was launched in response to a lack of  female representation at other music festivals.

Over the past two years, 70 percent of the festival event staff was female, including sound engineers and stage managers.

“We couldn’t be more proud to play host to the country’s largest celebration of women in music,” said Purzycki. “Gayle and Jeremy and everyone at Gable Music have worked incredibly hard to grow this festival over the years, and I look forward to seeing thousands of people once again come together in downtown Wilmington for two nights of fantastic entertainment and fine dining.”

The festival takes place between North Market Street between 2nd and 4th streets with food trucks, beverage stations, and arts and craft vendors.

The lineup of performers includes Jessica Latshaw, Angela Sheik, Joy Ike, Megan Knight, Victoria Watts, Hot Breakfast and dozens more.

JPMorgan Chase is the festival sponsor. “We at Chase are excited to be the presenting sponsor for Wilmington’s Ladybug Festival for the third year in a row,” said Don Mell, JPMorgan Chase’s Delaware market site manager. “The festival celebrates the diversity that downtown Wilmington offers its citizens. We are especially proud of how much Ladybug, the largest all-female music event in the nation, showcases the impact women have in the entertainment world.”

For downstate festival goers, the Ladybug Festival will take place in downtown Milford on September 21.
