Mayor Mike Purzycki on April 24 announced that a record-setting 76 community organizations ““ including civic associations, churches, businesses, schools, and nonprofits ““ will participate this Saturday, April 27 as part of Wilmington’s 8th annual Citywide Community Clean-up Day.
Purzycki said the response to this year’s event, which is part of the City’s Beautiful City Initiative, has been the largest since the clean-up day began in 2011.
The 76 groups have each designed their own effort to improve residential neighborhoods and public green spaces, and will, from 8 a.m. through Noon on Saturday, collect trash, plant flowers, update landscaping or otherwise improve their neighborhoods and communities.
Purzycki launched Wilmington’s Beautiful City Initiative in October of 2017 as an ongoing opportunity for residents and businesses to show their community spirit by organizing activities that beautify and improve their neighborhoods.
“This participation milestone is an impressive outpouring of community pride, which is essential to improving our neighborhoods and keeping them clean and safe throughout the year,” said Purzycki. “I look forward to joining everyone on Saturday as we work together to make Wilmington a more beautiful City. I especially want to thank all of the dedicated employees of the Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services and the Departments of Public Works and Parks and Recreation for coordinating the annual clean-up activities.”
