MILLSBORO – A new 65,000 square foot Weis Market is headed for Millsboro after the company purchased a property for just under $4.2 million.
Located in the Millsboro Town Center near PetSmart and BJ’s Warehouse, and between Avid and Lowe’s, the facility would be Weis’ second in Millsboro, according to Town Manager Jaime Burk.
The company’s first Millsboro location is housed on the other side of town along Route 24 and is just about nine miles away from its new store at 26676 Centerview Drive, but traffic, especially in the heat of summer, makes that drive 20 minutes at a minimum.
Weis Markets declined to comment on its new acquisition, but a press release from the company in February showcased growth as of the fourth quarter for 2025. With its stock market price on the rise, growth from last year alone included “12 major store development projects” in 2024 and the acquisition of two stores, as well as the construction on four new stores.
A new location in Delaware can count itself in as one of those up and coming stores Weis began working on in 2024; the Pennsylvania-based company started advancing it’s 64,000 square foot project at the new Bayberry Town Center to the north of Middletown, breaking ground this past February.
That location, the first for Weis in New Castle County, will include a Weis Gas N’ Go Fuel Center. Weis also touts locations in Millville and Lewes with no locations as of yet in Kent County.
Weis Markets, Inc. Chairman, President and CEO Jonathan H. Weis said in the press release about the company’s fourth quarter growth, “Several factors helped us achieve our results including sustained price investments, disciplined advertising and loyalty marketing programs along with the successful integration of technology to help us improve efficiencies and manage expenses while offering a consistently strong customer experience.”
Weis opened was founded in 1912 and has grown to include more than 200 stores between New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and West Virginia with over 23,000 employees nationwide, according to its website.
