(AP) – The president of Delaware State University will leave his post in January to lead the Thurgood Marshall College Fund in the nation’s capital.
The News Journal reports that university president Harry Lee Williams will become the nonprofit’s president and CEO. The announcement was made Monday night at a gala serving as the organization’s annual fundraiser.
The nonprofit has 47 member-schools and helps fund historically and predominantly black colleges and universities that are publicly supported.
Jim Clifton, the organization’s chairman, says Williams is the first sitting president of a historically black university to be appointed president and CEO.
Williams is currently a member of the organization’s board of directors. He has been president of Delaware State since 2010.
University Board of Trustees chairwoman Wilma Mishoe says a national search for the next president will begin soon.
