This month, the U.S. Census Bureau kicked off the 2017 Economic Census with a nationwide survey of businesses.

The Economic Census is conducted every five years. This is the first time the survey has gone almost entirely online.

The census gathers data from 3.7 million business locations, seeking information on sales, revenue, payroll and industry-specific information.

The deadline for responses is June 13. The first data set will be released in September 2019.
