Townsend growing, Bellefonte not so much

Delaware’s 51 small towns grew 1.47 percent in 2016, according to Pew Charitable Trusts.

The fastest-growing Delaware town was Townsend, which grew 6.44 percent last year. The New Castle County town’s estimated population was 2313 last year, according to the U.S. Census.

The fastest-shrinking small town was Bellefonte, where population shrank .59 percent in 2016. The town, part of New Castle County, had an estimated population of 1178 in 2016, according to the U.S. Census
