Newark, Del. — The Container Store will open across from the Christiana Mall on Saturday, Oct. 17th, adding around 50 jobs to the local community. The Delaware store, located in the Christiana Fashion Center,  will be the 76th store nationwide and the first in the state.

Officials from The Container Store announced that 10 percent of the store’s grand opening sales will be donated to Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children.

The Container Store opened its first store in Dallas in 1978 and has been named to FORTUNE Magazine’s list of 100 Best Companies to Work For for the past 16 years.

The store pays its salespeople 50 to 100 percent higher than retail industry average.  “A funny thing happens when you take the time to educate your employees, pay them well and treat them as equals.  You end up with extremely motivated and enthusiastic people,” said Chairman and CEO Kip Tendell.  “We work to foster a corporate culture atypical in the retail industry and boast an average turnover rate of around 10 percent companywide versus an industry average of more than 100 percent.”

The Delaware store will include 25,000 square feet of 16 signature lifestyle departments. Each full-time sales person receives more than 266 hours of training in their first year.

Nordstrom Rack and REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.) have also confirmed they will open stores at the Fashion Center.
