Textron Aviation departing New Castle Airport

NEW CASTLE (AP) — An aircraft company is closing its maintenance operations at New Castle Airport — a move expected to result in as many as 50 layoffs.
The News Journal reports that Textron Aviation, formerly Hawker Beechcraft, is the second major tenant to leave Delaware’s largest civil airfield recently, after Frontier Airlines stopped offering commercial flights in June 2015.
The company said in a statement Monday that it is planning to vacate the 40,000-square-foot, twin hangars where its employees maintain, repair and overhaul aircrafts, including Cessna and Beechcraft planes. No timeline was given for the closure.
The Kansas-based company is also planning to close a similar center in Atlanta and focus on mobile support stations in which trucks equipped with maintenance gear travel from regional hubs to the clients’ hangars.
