TEDxWilmington will hold an auto-and-transportation-oriented TEDxSalon on October 17 called “Who’s in the Driver’s Seat? The Transformation of Transportation.”
“We intend to have some of the most innovative thinkers and speakers to share their ideas worth spreading about transportation on the TEDx stage,” said Cathy Rossi of AAA Mid-Atlantic. “The advent of the automobile changed society in ways even Henry Ford couldn’t imagine. Now, we’re looking at technology and ideas that will change the way we live, work, and travel.”
“In addition to being the home of AAA Mid-Atlantic’s headquarters, Delaware is where the nation’s first divided highway was being constructed more than 100 years ago,” Rossi said, referring to Route 13, dubbed the DuPont Highway.
Paid for by philanthropist T. Coleman du Pont, the road was started in 1911 and completed in 1923. It was dedicated as Coleman du Pont Road in 1924. More lanes were added in the early 1930s, making it a divided highway.
Speakers for the event may apply at http://www.TEDxWilmington.com/events/transportation/ until August 16.
