State officials have revoked the Delaware STEM Academy’s charter, preventing the school from opening in the fall.
Local news outlets report that the Delaware State Board of Education voted Thursday to accept recommendations from the state’s Charter School Accountability Committee and the secretary of education to revoke school’s charter two months ahead of its planned opening date.
State officials cited low enrollment and uncertain funding.
Executive director of the Delaware STEM Academy Brett Taylor says the school had put a good plan going forward, but the board saw risks in staring the school with low enrollment. The school failed to come close to hitting its target enrollment of 250 students.
The school was set to open in the fall with a focus on science, technology, engineering and math.
