Seaford promotes veteran employee to lead economic development

Seaford Mayor David Genshaw and city council on Tuesday voted to promote 19-year-employee Trisha Newcomer to director of economic development and community relations, effective July 1.

Newcomer started working for the city as a 911 dispatcher in 1998. She also served as Seaford’s first certified municipal clerk and most recently as economic development and information technology manager.

“This new position aligns directly with the goals of mayor and council to create a culture that has all employees part of our economic development team,” Genshaw said. “Trisha has proven herself to have a solid grasp of our codes and regulations which is critical when talking with new businesses.”

A Seaford native, Newcomer currently resides in Laurel. She is active in a number of community and civic groups, including the Sussex County Health Coalition, Soroptimist International of Seaford and the Melody Joy Foundation.

“I have seen many of Seaford’s ups and downs in my lifetime, but I know this for a fact ““ Seaford has a lot to offer,” Newcomer said. “It is my privilege to be part of the Seaford Leadership team and I will strive every day to promote and highlight why Seaford is the Perfect Place to Start.”
