U.S. Small Business Administrator Linda McMahon is encouraging Americans to support local communities by shopping at small businesses on Saturday, November 24. Celebrated each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, an estimated 108 million consumers nationwide “shopped small” on Small Business Saturday last year.
“America’s 30 million small businesses reflect the unique character of their communities and Small Business Saturday is a day for consumers to support the local retailers that make their towns and cities special. When Americans shop at small businesses, they are supporting economic activity and job growth in their neighborhoods during this holiday season,” McMahon said. “The SBA continues to power the American Dream by ensuring these businesses have the tools and resources they need to start, grow and expand.”
This year marks the ninth Small Business Saturday. Last year, Americans spent a combined $15.4 billion at independent neighborhood retailers and restaurants.
Today, there are over 30 million small businesses in the United States. About half of all American workers are either employed by a small business or own a small business. And two out of three new jobs are created by small business. For more Small Business Saturday details visit www.sba.gov/saturday .
