SBA Delaware office cancels awards dinner

The SBA Delaware office has cancelled its May 9 dinner celebrating 13 Small Business Award winners.
John F. Fleming, director of the SBA Delaware District, said the federal agency has been taking a close look at events and has been concerned about alcohol being served at events and has cut event budgets across the country.
In addition, the Delaware office decided to rescind one of the awards after announcing the winners because of an issue that came up during the background checks, Fleming said..
Fleming said the office will present the SBA awards at “five or six smaller events.” It will present the SBA Small Business Person of the Year award to Donald Chupp of Dover’s Fireside Partners at the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce’s Awards in Excellence on June 13. Other presentations will be at the offices of the winners, Fleming said.
