SBA accepting nominations for 2016 awards

The U.S. Small Business Administration is now accepting nominations for its 2016 National Small Business Week Awards, including Small Business Person of the Year. Since 1963, National Small Business Week has recognized the outstanding achievements of America’s small businesses.

“National Small Business Week is an opportunity to celebrate the impact these entrepreneurial spirits have on their communities and this nation’s economy,” said SBA Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Natalia Olson-Urtecho. “Small businesses are our real economic engines.”

“Delaware has a long history of producing some amazing awardees,” said Delaware District Director John Fleming. “Last year, in addition to the Delaware Small Business of the Year, Greenleaf Inc. owned by Brad Winemiller; Delaware produced the Regional Exporter of the Year, O. A. Newton, owned by Robert A Rider Jr.; and the National 8(a) Graduate of the Year, First State Manufacturing, owned by Sher and Eli Valenzuela.”

“Past winners include such notable companies as Dogfish Head, Iron Hill, and Buffalo Wild Wings. We expect to add more great small businesses to the honor roll this year,” Fleming said.

In addition to a mix of awards for exports, disaster recovery and procurement, one Small Business Person of the Year is selected from each state or territory.
