Rockland Sports, the company that purchased the DuPont Country Club last spring, has named Robert A. Wirth as chief executive officer. Wirth will lead the renewal of the 500-acre property and 113,000-square foot clubhouse in northern Delaware.
“I am honored to be placed in a position to lead the renewal of a club with the history and tradition of the DuPont Country Club,” Wirth said. “It is important that the Club maintain its role in the community and that we provide superior facilities and services to our members.”
Wirth formerly led the transition in ownership of the club from the DuPont Company to Rockland Sports earlier this year.
“Since we purchased the DuPont Country Club, Rob has done an excellent job in establishing a seamless transition for Club members and employees” said Ben DuPont, one of the owners of Rockland Sports. “We are confident that Rob is the leader that we need to enable us to move beyond the transitional period and begin to make important improvements in an effort to create a state-of-the-art, family-focused club for the Greater Wilmington community.”
Wirth will handle all essential functions of the Club: Golf, Tennis, Fitness, Finance/Accounting, Grounds, Maintenance, Procurement, Membership, Events and all other administrative functions.
Rockland Sports plans to make an initial investment of $18 million to upgrade and enhance the club and its important role with sports enthusiasts and in the community. Planned improvements include the addition of pools and a full-scale fitness facility, substantial upgrades to the golf and tennis facilities, enhanced dining options and expanded youth sports capabilities. The first phase of construction is expected to begin in November.
