An operational error at the Delaware City Refinery triggered the flare system this morning, sending flames shooting into the air.
The incident occurred just after midnight. According to the community information hotline, all systems have since been stabilized.
The refinery notified the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, as it’s required to do whenever a “reportable quantity” of toxins is released into the air through the flare system.
