Delaware Business Times highlights an annual list of individuals as “People to Watch” in the new year as we believe they will leave a mark on their industries or communities.

LEWES – Earlier this summer, Beebe Healthcare released its strategic plan that outlined its vision for the future, and its primary goal is to serve the growing needs of the Sussex County community.

In a time when other health care systems are weighing options to expand beyond its main footprint, Beebe President and CEO Dr. David Tam and the executives, doctors, nurses and support staff at the health care system have made it clear it wants to focus on all residents in Delaware’s southernmost county, from those renting homes at the beach to those living year-round in rural parts of west of U.S. Route 113.

Looking at the past year, it’s clear to see how Tam and the Beebe Healthcare team are working to deliver core tenants of the strategic plan. Beebe will anchor a new medical facility in Milton and it is planning for a new hybrid emergency department in Millsboro, two areas well-traveled by beachgoers and residents alike. But it’s also opening up to new models of care, such as a new mobile health clinic to offer translation services as well as telemedicine and physicians on hand, meeting patients where they are.

Beebe has also set its sights on extending primary and other care options throughout the county, including a new primary care office in the Roxana area, and continuing to hire at least five providers in primary, family and women’s care, as well as two additions to the behavioral health team in the last two months alone. In July 2023, Beebe will welcome its first class of family medicine residents, hoping to build the pipeline for future doctors to Sussex.
