Armand J. Della Porta Jr.

Armand J. Della Porta Jr., shareholder in the Wilmington office of Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin, was appointed Atlantic regional director of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), the country’s leading organization of defense attorneys and in-house counsel. Della Porta, who served as the DRI’s Delaware State Representative from 2010-13, will begin his three-year term on the organization’s Board of Directors in October.

Deborah Burton

Deborah Burton joined the Delaware Community Foundation (DCF) as a data analyst. This new position is part of the DCF’s expansion of its statewide community engagement role, helping the community develop and pursue a civic agenda to achieve a shared vision for Delaware’s future.  In the data analyst position, Burton will help create system protocols, reports and analyses of information resident within the foundation, including in the new DCF Indicator Project, which will be launched this fall. She also will act as a resource for the foundation’s community knowledge and funds development initiatives.

Dr. Mayer Katz

Dr. Mayer Katz, board certified in vascular surgery, joined Beebe Medical Group’s newly formed Beebe Vascular (formerly Delaware Bay Surgical Service).

Dr. Carlos Neves and Dr. Sean Ryan, both fellowship-trained in vascular and endovascular surgery, joined Katz at the practice. With the addition of Beebe Vascular, Beebe Medical Group, the employed physician medical group under Beebe Healthcare, continues its expansion, and is currently composed of 18 medical specialties in 25 locations throughout southern Delaware, with more than 101 medical providers and 151 support staff.

Girls Inc. of Delaware honors three outstanding Del. Women

Girls Inc. of Delaware announced three local women have been selected as the 2015 Strong, Smart, and Bold honorees. They are: Rosa Colon-Kolacko, Senior Vice President Christiana Care Learning Institute & Chief Diversity Officer; Claudia Peña Porretti,
Vice President of Development, Latin American Community Center; and Lourdes L. Puig,
Program Manager; Seed Treatment Enterprise, DuPont Co. 

“The mission of Girls Inc. is to ensure that all girls have the opportunity to reach their full potential,” said Suzette Schultz, immediate past chair of the board and chair of the 2015 Strong, Smart, and Bold awards. “Girls throughout Delaware not only need adults to look after them, but they also need adults they can look up to.  These three women are living examples of what it really means to be strong, smart, and bold.” Girls Inc.’s core essential services focus on three areas: healthy living, academic enrichment and support, and life skills instruction. It is an affiliate of Girls Incorporated, an international organization dedicated to emotional, and physical challenges through research-based programs delivered by trained staff and mentors.

Del. is third in legislative appropriations for state arts agencies

Delaware is third in the nation for the Per Capita State Arts Agency Appropriations for fiscal year 2016, according to The National Assembly of State Arts Agencies. The Delaware Arts Alliance (DAA) shared the findings of State Arts Agency Fiscal Year 2016 Legislative Appropriations Preview report.  “We are fortunate to live in a state where our administration and legislators are committed to the arts and can see their great impact on Delaware’s economy and culture,” said DAA Executive Director Dr. Guillermina Gonzalez. The calculations by NASAA show how each state arts agency’s appropriation must be used to serve the entire population of its state, making per capita funding an important metric for measuring the health of arts appropriations.  The final report of appropriations will be released in January 2016. DAA advocates for the arts locally and federally. DAA’s arts advocacy efforts federally and locally help bring 80 percent (state funding) and 20 percent (federal funding) of the State Arts Budget handled by the Delaware Division of the Arts.

State Rep. Paul S. Baumbach selected as CSG Toll Fellow

Delaware State Rep. Paul S. Baumbach is one of 48 state policymakers from across the country selected as a Council of State Governments’ Henry Toll Fellow for the Class of 2015. The Class of 2015 Toll Fellows represents 33 states and Puerto Rico, with 35 serving in the legislative branch, four serving in the judiciary and nine hailing from the executive. Named for CSG founder Henry Wolcott Toll, the Toll Fellowship program is one of the nation’s premier leadership development programs for state government officials. Each year, the program brings 48 of the nation’s top officials from all three branches of state government to Lexington, Ky., for an intensive six-day, five-night intellectual boot camp.

Trinity Logistics featured for third year in row

Food Logistics has named Trinity Logistics as a Top 3PL (third party logistics) and Cold Storage Provider. Food Logistics is the only publication dedicated exclusively to global supply chain solutions for the food and beverage industry. The Top 3PL and Cold Storage Providers list serves as a resource guide of third-party logistics and cold storage providers whose products and services are critical for companies in the global food and beverage supply chain. Engineering magazine showcases Flats housing redevelopment

The redevelopment of the Flats community on the west side of Wilmington was selected by Engineering, Inc. magazine as one of the top four urban renewal projects nationwide by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). The project is featured in the July-August 2015 edition of the magazine and includes the story behind The Flats, entitled “Remaking a Century-Old Housing Development.” Landmark Science & Engineering, a regional civil engineering and environmental science firm working on the redevelopment project submitted the project to the magazine. Groundbreaking for a 450-unit, ten-year, $100-million redevelopment effort occurred this past spring and the project will be executed in seven phases. This first phase of this project, which will cost approximately $15.5 million and is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2016, will replace 80 outdated units with 73 more modern units.

TekSolv named one of America’s fastest-growing privates

TekSolv has earned a spot on the Inc. 5,000 Fastest-Growing Private U.S. Companies List for the third year in a row. The company is a provider of professional service solutions for industrial markets, focusing on safety and training services, systems integrations and oilfield automation services, engineering consulting, environmental and occupational health services and safety apparel. This year they earned the position of No. 1,993 and the No. 9 spot in the top companies for the state of Delaware. The award recognizes private companies who have experienced significant growth in revenue percentage over a three-year period. The company has experienced 198 percent growth and added 125 jobs within the past three years. “Our growth as a company is possible due to the hard work of our dedicated team as well as the support of our valued customers,” said TekSolv President John Mouser. “We are thrilled to receive this honor and be recognized on the Inc. 5,000 list.”
