Wali W. Rushdan II will be honored by Delaware Technical Community College on Feb. 25 as part of its Black History Month events. Rushdan is an attorney in the commercial litigation department of Fox Rothschild LLP’s Wilmington, Delaware office. He also dedicates his time to mentoring young men and aspiring lawyers from diverse backgrounds. Rushdan also maintains a presence in a variety of public service works geared towards improving social, educational, and vocational opportunities for disadvantaged communities. He regularly represents juveniles in Family Court proceedings as guardian ad litem; serves on the organizing committee for the annual Delaware State Bar Association’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast and Statewide Day of Service; and is a member of the Delaware Access to Justice Commission.
Scott Kammerer has been named chairman of the board of the Delaware Restaurant Association for a two-year term beginning in 2020. Kammerer is the president of SoDel Concepts, which owns 12 restaurants in coastal Sussex County.
Shubhika Srivastava, MBBS, has been appointed chief of Cardiology for the Nemours Cardiac Center at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. Dr. Srivastava will provide oversight, leadership and mentoring in all clinical, research and educational activities for the Division of Cardiology. Dr. Srivastava is nationally recognized as an educator and for her clinical expertise in congenital echocardiography and fetal cardiology. She is also recognized for excellence in patient care and was named among the Best Doctors by Castle Connolly and the Most Eminent Women Physicians by New York Magazine.
Oderah C. Nwaeze has been named partner in the trial practice group at Duane Morris LLP in Wilmington. Nwaeze’s experience consists of corporate governance actions, statutory actions arising under Delaware General Corporation Law, state and federal class actions (including matters involving state and federal securities laws, statutory and common law fraud, and breaches of fiduciary duty) and breach of contract disputes. Nwaeze also regularly works with the professionals in Duane Morris’ Intellectual Property Practice Group to represent clients in patent and copyright litigation in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.
Kathleen Amalfitano has been nominated by Gov. John Carney to serve as a Court of Common Pleas judge in Kent County. Since 1999, Amalfitano has served as assistant supervising attorney in the Office of Defense Services. In addition to overseeing the Kent County Office of Defense Services, Amalfitano represents clients in criminal matters before the Superior Court and Court of Common Pleas. Amalfitano also represents litigants in the Veterans Court and Mental Health Court for Superior Court. Previously, she served as a legal advisor in the Insurance Commissioner’s Office and as an assistant county attorney in the New Castle County Department of Law.
Donna Polk has been named executive director for the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association. Polk becomes the ninth executive director since the organization’s inception in 1945. She will be the organization’s first female director and first African American director.
Amanda Steele-Middleton has been named the University of Delaware’s new registrar. Steele-Middleton comes to UD from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where she was also the registrar She succeeds Jeff Palmer, who is retiring after a 42-year career at UD that began when he was an undergraduate student assistant in the Registrar’s Office.
Cindy Sterling has been named regional executive director for Service Source’s Delaware regional office. Sterling has been with ServiceSource since 1999, most recently as the director of employment services. During her tenure at ServiceSource, she has developed and implemented several new programs and services to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities, including the Dover Senior Center, the FrameWorks for Success School to Work Transition Program, the Riverfront Community Program, Employment Solutions for People with Autism program, and FinanceAbility.
Trish Moore is returning to the ACCESS Center at the University of Delaware as an academic advisor/career counselor/student success coach. Moore’s first professional job at UD was with this office.
U.S. Senator Chris Coons has been awarded the John S. McCain Service to Country Award from Voices for National Service, an organization working to ensure Americans of all ages can serve and volunteer in their community.
John Moore of Wilmington, president of Scientific Bioprocessing in New York, has been named chairman of Scientific Industries, which manufactures the Vortex-Genie and has products in most life science labs around the world.
Dr. Wilma Mishoe has returned to her service as a member of Delaware State University’s board of trustees after a two-year tenure as president of the university. Mishoe was the first woman in the institution’s history to serve in that top leadership position. In another historic first at the University, she was also the first offspring of a president to serve in that same capacity (her father Dr. Luna I. Mishoe was the president of then-Delaware State College from 1960-1987). Mishoe retired as the University President at the end of 2019.
Wesley T. Stefanick is the new chief executive officer at the Delaware Association of REALTORS. Stefanick was previously the association executive for the Reading-Berks Association of REALTORS® (R-BAR) in Pennsylvania since May 2018. He also served as chairman and director of Bellco Federal Credit Union and a volunteer for the Berks Military History Museum.
