WSFS Bank announced Michelle L. Burroughs as its new vice president and director of diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I), reporting to Michael L. Conklin, executive vice president and chief human resources officer. Burroughs will support WSFS in creating and delivering a work environment designed to foster a culture of inclusion and ensure the long-term sustainability of the company’s DE&I efforts.
Burroughs joins WSFS with almost 20 years of experience building and leading collaborative environments with a focus on diversity initiatives. She most recently served as community engagement director at Nemours Children’s Hospital, where she was a core leader on the D.R.I.V.E. (Diversity, anti-Racism, Inclusion, Value, and Health Equity) task force, provided strategic management of community engagement activities, and promoted equity in healthcare to reduce disparities in underserved or marginalized communities.
Gov. John Carney announced Nov. 5 that Susan Bunting will leave her position as secretary of the Delaware Department of Education (DOE) in December after nearly five decades of service in Delaware public education. Her successor has not yet been named.
Bunting, who was confirmed to the cabinet position in January 2017, spent the previous four decades in the Indian River School District, leading it as superintendent from 2006-2017 and being named Delaware Superintendent of the Year in 2012. She has not announced her next steps but intends to remain involved in educator training and development.
During her tenure, Bunting oversaw the state’s educational response to COVID-19 and the creation and expansion of Opportunity Funding, Delaware’s first weighted student funding program. The program targets support for low-income and English learner students.

Emeritz provides clients with Delaware corporate law advice relating to fiduciary duties and statutory requirements. He guides clients through each stage of a company’s life cycle, including formation and conversion from other entity types, corporate governance and internal investigations, stock issuances and preferred stock investments, mergers, acquisitions, asset sales, dividends, stock repurchases, and tender offers, dissolution, liquidation, and winding up, and other statutory matters. Emeritz regularly represents private and public companies and their boards of directors, special committees, and investors. He also provides Delaware corporate advice in the context of litigation regarding such matters.
Prior to joining the firm, Emeritz worked in the Delaware office of the law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.
The Vision Coalition of Delaware has announced that Bettina Tweardy Riveros will replace outgoing Leadership Team chair Gary Stockbridge, regional president of Delmarva Power and Atlantic City Electric.
As chief health equity officer, Riveros is responsible for leading health policy and engaging community stakeholders in partnerships to advance ChristianaCare’s strategy, mission and commitment to achieve health equity and advance population health. As senior vice president for government affairs and community engagement, Riveros is responsible for identifying and addressing legal, regulatory, policy and relationship issues to advance ChristianaCare’s strategic objectives.
Riveros joined ChristianaCare in January 2016. She serves as co-chair on the ChristianaCare Community Engagement and Advisory Council, on the boards of the REACH Riverside and Serviam Girls Academy; on the Delaware Business Roundtable Education Committee Steering Committee; and on the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors.
Prior to joining ChristianaCare, Riveros served as senior adviser for health policy in the office of former Gov. Jack Markell and as chair of the Delaware Health Care Commission. Riveros was a founding member of the Delaware Center for Health Innovation and served on the DHIN Board and Delaware Health Resource Board.

Nemours Children’s Health orthopedic surgeon Dr. Suken A. Shah was one of 15 health care professionals to be elected to the 2021-2022 Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) Board of Directors, a nonprofit and professional organization of physicians and allied health personnel focused on supporting research in spinal deformities.
Shah is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, clinical fellowship director, and division chief of the Nemours Spine and Scoliosis Center at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware. For more than 20 years, he has been an innovator, researcher, and key opinion leader in the field of spinal deformity surgery.
The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in Pennsylvania & Delaware has announced that Emily Knearl has joined the organization as Delaware external affairs advisor. Knearl joins TNC with a 25-year public policy and advocacy career in Delaware, most recently in the environmental and public health sectors.
Knearl will be managing TNC’s Delaware government relations portfolio, which will include working with elected officials, government agencies, community members, nonprofits, staff, and volunteers to advance TNC’s mission of protecting nature and preserving life. She will also be the primary media contact for TNC in the state.
The Nature Conservancy’s Delaware chapter was founded in 1990 and merged with the Pennsylvania chapter in 2020. The organization’s work in Delaware includes land protection and stewardship including the Milford Neck Preserve, urban conservation, the citizen science Stream Stewardship program, and educational volunteer opportunities.
Dawn A. Crews-Seams, a clinical therapist, has joined NorthNode Group Counseling in Dover.
Crews-Seams is a practicing therapist, whose work focuses primarily on preschool and school-aged youths who deal with anger and anxiety issues, as well as treating adults with depression and substance use disorder. As an avid volunteer in the Air Force’s Sexual Assault Prevention & Reporting Program, she is a victim’s advocate who helps those that have experienced a traumatic event process their emotions, grief, and other complex traumas.
