Beebe Healthcare has named John Powell, MD, MHCDS, FACEP, as physician in chief and welcomed two new family medicine clinicians, Kallie Fehr, MD, and Mia McCarthy, PA-C.
Dr. Powell is board-certified in Emergency Medicine and has more than 20 years of dedicated experience in healthcare. Most recently, Dr. Powell established the Emergency Services Service Line at ChristianaCare. He served as the co-physician leader for the Acute Medicine Service Line for hospitalists, emergency, and critical care services. His experience includes being the Chair of Emergency Medicine and Physician Executive in the ChristianaCare Medical Group. Dr. Powell has extensive experience in healthcare operations, clinical care design, value-based care partnerships, change management and performance improvement.
“We are thrilled to have recruited Dr. Powell back to Sussex County,” Paul Sierzenski, MD, MSHQS, CPE, FACEP, senior vice president and chief physician executive, Beebe Healthcare, said. “Dr. Powell brings extensive experience and expertise to assist Beebe Healthcare’s transformation as we serve our growing community. As Physician in Chief, Dr. Powell’s primary responsibility will be the oversight of medical and clinical specialty care across Beebe Healthcare and Beebe Medical Group. He will collaborate with medical directors, operational leaders, staff and our Surgeon in Chief and Chief Advanced Practice Clinician.
Dr. Powell attended Sussex Central High School. He graduated from the University of Delaware and then worked at the Washington, D.C.-based The Advisory Board Company prior to completing medical school at Jefferson Medical College. He finished a general surgery internship at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and then served active duty as a United States Navy Diver and Undersea Medical Officer. He returned to Delaware and completed his residency and fellowship in Emergency Medicine and Emergency Point-of-Care Ultrasound at ChristianaCare. He holds a master’s degree in Health Care Delivery Science from Dartmouth College and the Tuck School of Business.
Dr. Powell is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Medical Society of Delaware. He was academic faculty in Emergency Medicine education for more than a decade, participated in clinical trials, delivered presentations and lectures, and authored and published papers in his areas of expertise. He just completed three terms on the ChristianaCare HomeHealth Board and recently joined the Westside Health Board of Directors, a federally qualified health center.
“I’m excited to return home to Sussex County, the community that provided me the foundation for success, and dedicate myself to the Beebe Healthcare mission to encourage healthy living, prevent illness and restore optimal health to our community by advancing access to exceptional care throughout Sussex County,” Dr. Powell said.
Building Stronger Communities: How to Effectively Support Local Nonprofits
Outside of work, Dr. Powell enjoys spending time with his wife, Jennifer, and their daughter and son. He likes to renovate homes and landscaping, while also enjoying outdoor activities such as running, rucking, hunting, fishing, and is a self-described fledgling surfer.
Dr. Fehr is a primary care physician who focuses on management of chronic diseases and addresses acute care issues as patients present in her office with more urgent healthcare needs. Additionally, she spends a lot of time talking with patients about preventive care and the steps they can take to optimize their personal health. Dr. Fehr has a specialized interest in women’s health, including the delivery of pediatric and adolescent healthcare services. She is passionate about community health and is always looking for opportunities to provide care for underserved populations.
Dr. Fehr is a graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, where she earned her medical degree as well as a Master of Public Health. She completed her residency training with focus on family medicine at ChristianaCare Health System in Newark. While pursuing her medical education and post-graduate training, Dr. Fehr devoted time to clinical research at the Dornsife School of Public Health and Hahnemann University Hospital, both located in Philadelphia. She presented her findings at numerous institutional and regional conferences, supporting the advancement of primary care and internal medicine practices, quality and safety initiatives, and problem-based learning in medical education environments.
“I visited the Delaware beach towns frequently for vacation as I was growing up and decided to make Sussex County my home after my family relocated to this area,” said Dr. Fehr, who is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians. “I am proud to be part of Beebe’s medical staff and to have the opportunity to serve a community I have grown to love through my personal experiences here.”
McCarthyis a physician assistant who supports the delivery of primary care services for both children and adults at Beebe. She treats acute health issues as well as chronic diseases, with a focus on helping each patient optimize their overall health and well-being.
McCarthy holds a Master of Physician Assistance Science degree from Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania. There, she also earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, with a minor in healthcare management.
While pursuing her education, McCarthy gained clinical experience in a wide range of medical specialties, including women’s health, pediatrics, wound care, cardiology, emergency medicine, surgery, behavioral medicine, internal medicine, and family practice. Additionally, she gained leadership experience through active membership in the Physician Assistant Student Society and Delta Phi Epsilon.
“I am passionate about working with families,” McCarthy said. “My goal is to help patients achieve good health and one way I do that is through promoting the importance of preventive care. Annual physicals and screenings are important, and I want patients to understand what they should be scheduling based on their age, gender, personal and family medical history, and lifestyle.”
Kert Anzilotti, M.D., MBA, FACR, has been appointed president of the Medical Group of ChristianaCare. Anzilotti has served as interim president since June 2024. He will also continue in his role as system chief medical officer of ChristianaCare.
As president of the ChristianaCare Medical Group, Anzilotti will seek to improve every aspect of care for every person the Medical Group touches. He will focus on the optimization of care delivery, strategic visioning, network development, clinical technology implementation and leveraging medical informatics.
Anzilotti will continue to develop new care models that transcend settings, promote value-based care and improve the patient experience across the clinical enterprise. Among his priorities are the adoption of population health measures, the embedding of health equity into care delivery and workforce development, further expansion of access points for patients and the continuous enhancement of patient and caregiver experience.

Since joining ChristianaCare in 2011, Dr. Anzilotti has earned a well-deserved reputation as a thoughtful and collaborative leader.”
Anzilotti has served in numerous leadership roles at ChristianaCare, including as chief medical officer, acute care; chair of the Department of Radiology; medical director of Imaging Services; and physician leader of the Neurosciences Service Line.
He also previously served as interim president and CEO for the eBrightHealth ACO with responsibility for physician leadership and network operations. He is board certified in neuroradiology.
“Over the many years I have been at ChristianaCare, I have had the privilege of witnessing the dedication and compassion of my Medical Group colleagues as we served together with love and excellence,” Anzilotti said.

Anzilotti earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He earned his MBA at the University of Delaware, completed the Managing Health Care Delivery course at Harvard Business School and graduated as Physician Executive Fellow in the Health Management Academy, GE Fellows Program.
The Delaware State Chamber named Danielle Blake vice president of member engagement. She joins us with over 10 years of chamber of commerce experience, most recently working with the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.
Blake is just shy of $1 million in career membership sales and has won the 2024 “Excellence in Membership and Development” award from the National Association of State Chambers of Commerce. She also won two awards in 2022 from the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives: First Place in Total New Sales and Second Place in Total Dollar Value in the National Sales Winner (500k-2M Category).
A native of Joliet, Illinois (think Blues Brothers), Blake has a 5-year-old daughter, Megan, with her husband Mark, and an 11-year-old King Charles Cavalier named Payton, named after the legendary Walter Payton.
Jimmy Strusowski has been recognized by The ACHR NEWS as a 2024 Top 40 Under 40 HVACR Professional, highlighting his leadership in the industry.
As a Service Account Manager with Seiberlich Trane Energy Services, Strusowski’s role involves daily planning, identifying service opportunities, building customer relationships, and preparing system cost estimates, sales proposals, and savings analyses. He assists clients in HVAC and BAS asset planning throughout their lifecycles, ensuring satisfaction and exploring opportunities for system expansion or additional services. Strusowski also serves as chair of the Careers in Construction Committee for the Associated Builders and Contractors Delaware Chapter, where he promotes construction careers through high school and middle school programs.
