Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) named Lucy Xiao the new chief of staff and Michael Santora as the legislative director.
Xiao will begin the role of chief of staff upon Beukelman’s departure. Xiao has worked for Senator Carper for over four years, serving as his tax and trade policy advisor and most recently as legislative director. Santora will begin the role of legislative director for Senator Carper, after serving in the Senator’s office for over 17 years.
“While bittersweet, I’m thrilled that Lucy Xiao is willing to serve as my next chief of staff. Lucy is exceptionally hardworking and I know she will lead our team well as we begin my final year in the U.S. Senate. I look forward to having her whip-smart instincts and love for our country guide us into this new chapter,” Senator Carper said.
WSFS Bank named Lisa Brubaker executive vice president, chief human resources officer (CHRO). In her new role, Brubaker will lead all human resources functions, including talent acquisition, total rewards, operations, learning & development, associate engagement, and diversity, equity & inclusion.
“Lisa’s proven leadership, knowledge of the WSFS culture, and her deep experience in a variety of roles throughout the Company make her the ideal leader to step into the role of the CHRO and direct our talent efforts,” Levenson said.
Most recently, Brubaker was chief Information Officer (CIO), overseeing WSFS’ technology infrastructure, application development and support, information and cybersecurity, bank operations, enterprise project management, and enhancements to customer-facing digital solutions. Brubaker will continue to oversee these areas during the search for her successor.
Brubaker joined WSFS in 1987 and has held a variety of roles with increasing responsibilities throughout her career. This included the multifaceted role of senior vice president, director of retail strategy in the consumer banking division, along with an extensive background in project management and mergers and acquisitions.
Brubaker serves on the Board of the Brandywine Red Clay Alliance, a watershed conservation organization in Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Castle County, Delaware, and volunteers for several organizations in the Greater Philadelphia and Delaware region.
Nason Construction announced Tom Cover will serve as vice president.
Cover has 40 years of experience with SC&A Construction in many roles including chief estimator, senior vice president, and most recently, president. He has extensive experience working on a variety of projects including Wintethur Gardens & Museum, Vicmead Hunt Club, and Stonegates Retirement Community, as well as historical renovations including Walkers Mill and the Delaware Center for Horticulture. Cover is an active member of the local community serving on several boards and committees.
Saul Ewing LLP has elected Jess Jones to the firm’s partnership
Jones is an associate in the litigation department, based in Wilmington. She focuses primarily on disputes affecting colleges and universities, including representing institutions in matters ranging from tenure disputes and discrimination claims to issues involving Title VII and Title IX, including cases involving sexual assault allegations. Beyond her higher education work, Jones assists with litigation involving clients in the health care industry, including medical practices and nursing homes.
Brian Talley has joined the Angle Mortgage Network, a Dover-based loan lender that offers VA and FHA for residential and SBA for commercial loans.
“Mr. Tally brings a wealth of experience in customer service and comprehensive management skills, communication, budgeting, and community and proactive problem solving,” John Rowley said.
Angle Mortgage works across Delaware and is expanding its staff of mortgage loan originators in residential and commercial lending. With more than 30 years’ experience in lending and credit repair, Angle is increasing its mortgage loan origination staff to be headed by a manager to recruit, hire and train up to 10 loan originators.
Sussex County Council has selected Councilman Michael H. Vincent as president of the body for the 14th year in a row and Councilman John L. Rieley will serve as vice president. Both held the positions in 2023, meaning the Council’s leadership will remain intact for another year.
It is customary for council at the first meeting of each year to elect officers and appoint legal staff. As Council president, Mr. Vincent will continue to preside over all council meetings in 2024, with Mr. Rieley substituting as the presiding officer anytime Mr. Vincent is unable to attend.
Council also approved J. Everett Moore Jr. to re-appointment as County Attorney. Mr. Moore serves at the pleasure of the County Council as the elected body’s chief counsel.
Meantime, staff from the Moore & Rutt and Parkowski, Guerke & Swayze law firms will represent the Board of Adjustment and Planning & Zoning Commission respectively as assistant county attorneys.
The National Restaurant Association and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) announced the addition of Carrie Leishman, president and CEO of the Delaware Restaurant Association (DRA), as treasurer for the board of directors.
Leishman is president and CEO of the Delaware Restaurant Association (DRA) and the Delaware Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. Leishman is a passionate and fearless advocate for the industry and is credited with strengthening the DRA into one of the most influential business organizations in the state. The DRA created the first industry training for substance abuse awareness and prevention, and for this work, received recognition from the White House in 2018. Leishman grew up in upstate New York and graduated from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
