Former Governor and Congressman Mike Castle has joined A Better Delaware (ABD) as an advisory board member. ABD is a non-partisan public policy and political advocacy organization that supports pro-growth, pro-jobs policies and greater transparency and accountability in state government.
During 40 years in public office, Castle served two terms as governor, from 1985 to 1992, before he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for nine terms. While in Congress, Castle served on the Financial Services Committee and on the Education and Labor Committee and was a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility and working across party lines to build bridges and form coalitions to find pragmatic, bipartisan solutions to some of the nation’s most pressing problems.
The U.S. Department of Commerce has appointed Carla Stone, president of World Trade Center Delaware, to the Mid-Atlantic District Export Council (DEC).
DECs have served the United States by assisting companies in their local communities to export, promoting U.S. economic growth, and creating and sustaining new and higher-paying jobs in local communities. Each DEC member has been appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce because of his or her recognized real world expertise in international trade matters and commitment to volunteerism on behalf of the local exporting community.
Beebe Medical Group has announced Dr. Romel Crèvecoeur appointment to its infectious Disease and Travel Medicine team. After receiving his medical degree at the State University Medical School in Haiti, he completed his Internal Medicine residency at the Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education in Scranton, Pa. He then completed his infectious disease fellowship at Drexel University’s Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Crèvecoeur, has been published in a peer-review journal and has been a part of multiple research studies regarding infectious diseases.
Dr. Francine Edwards, deputy chief administrative officer, has been named by the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions among its select group of the 2021 MSI Aspiring Leaders. Prior to the recent elevation to her current leadership position, Dr. Edwards was the dean of the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. She began her tenure at Delaware State University as a Mass Communications faculty member in 2006.
Belfint Lyons & Shuman announced Bryce L. Schelhaas, CPA has been promoted to manager in the firm’s Tax & Small Business Department and Rachel Mulderrig has earned the certified public accountant (CPA) designation.
Schelhaas specializes in assisting individuals, corporations, and small businesses including medical practices, those invested in real estate, and those with foreign-owned U.S. entities, with many client types and industries scattered in the areas between.
Mulderrig is a staff II accountant in the firm’s Rotational Developmental Program. She has experience in nonprofit organizations, individual and business tax return preparation, and employee benefit plans.
Charlene (Patti) Bisson, 44, has been named president and CEO of Independent Newsmedia Inc. USA (INI), the owner of the Dover-based Delaware State News newspaper. She is only the fourth person to serve as the company’s CEO in its 68-year history.
Bisson has spent 22 years with INI rising from reporting to editing to the regional publisher before taking over as Arizona group publisher in 2018. Under her leadership, Arizona has become INI’s largest and fastest growing group. Now, as CEO, she will be responsible for all of INI’s corporate, digital, printing and publishing operations in four states, working with the company’s directors and officers.
The Delaware Community Foundation has announced Pete Kennedy as a new member of its board of directors. Kennedy has expertise in public sector and nonprofit accounting, auditing and tax issues. He has been privileged to work with many of the region’s leading nonprofit institutions.
Kennedy retired from the Navy Reserve after 22 years of service. He holds a degree in accounting from Clarkson University; holds active licenses in both Delaware and Pennsylvania; and is affiliated with both the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accounts and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Sheila Bravo has been elected to the board of directors for the National Council of Nonprofits (NCN). Bravo is the President & CEO of DANA, the Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement, and one of five members elected to the National Council. The NCN relies on nonprofit leaders that can bring their vast experiences and accomplishments in the worlds of business and philanthropy on behalf of the country’s 1.3 million nonprofits.
Carrie Y. Joles has joined Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc., at its Milford office. Joles joins the Milford office as an administrative assistant, providing support to multiple departments throughout the firm. Her role includes the preparation and delivery of proposals, plans and specifications, as well as handling correspondence and files for the engineering and survey teams.
