DOVER โ€” A company that was awarded a contract two years ago to open Delaware’s first medical marijuana dispensary near Wilmington has won the bidding to open a similar facility in Sussex County.

Department of Health and Social Services officials confirmed Monday that First State Compassion Center, which opened the New Castle County facility last year, has been awarded the Sussex County contract.

First State Compassion Center is led by Mark Lally, a former state trooper who once served as U.S. Sen. Tom Carper’s Sussex County director.

Last month, officials said New York-based Columbia Care, which operates medical marijuana facilities in five states and the District of Columbia, was awarded a contract to grow and dispense medical marijuana in Kent County.
