“Operation Backlog” is complete, according to New Castle County Register Ciro Poppiti.
New Castle County launched the initiative to address a backlog of “stale” estates dating back to 2000. By closing the estates, Operation Backlog generated more than $2.5 million in revenue.
âI am very proud that we have been able to collect more than $2.5 million for the County,â Poppiti said. âI am prouder still that Operation Backlog has been a mechanism by which over $140 million in estate assets have been accounted for to beneficiaries and creditors.â
The effort closed or updated more than 1,800 estates, accounting for $140 million in assets, over a seven year span.
âThis has been a tremendous team effort,â said Poppiti, âincluding my staff, our colleagues throughout County government, support from County Council, and diligence by attorney practitioners.â
The County will hold “Closing Ceremonies” for the program on Wednesday, May 9 at the Council Chambers in the Louis L. Redding City/County Building, 800 N. French Street, Wilmington.
