New Castle County farmers markets open for business

New Castle County is calling in the warmer weather with the reopening of five county-sponsored farmers markets. These outdoor markets give local farmers and vendors a chance to sell their products, while providing residents with healthy food options.
“Farm to table will make you grow strong and able,” County Executive Matt Meyer said. “Support our local economy by visiting your neighborhood farmers market today.”
A number of local partners – including UD Cooperative Extension, Delaware Nature Society, New Castle County Conservation District, and Westside Medical – will use the sites for educational programming.
Each location will operate one day a week through October. New Castle County offers a weekly e-newsletter for updates and product information.
The farmers markets attracted 40,000 patrons last year and generated $380,000 in sales. This year also markets the beginning of the WIC Farmers Market Voucher Program, which allows customers to use SNAP/EBT card payments at the markets. .
