Microbreweries now welcome in Newark

Share

The Newark City Council passed a bill on Monday that would allow microbreweries to locate in the city with a special-use permit.

Unlike brew pubs, microbreweries are not attached to a restaurant or food establishment. They are standalone alcohol production facilities, and they are not allowed by right in the Newark zoning code.

The new law amends the code to allow microbreweries in certain zoning districts, while still requiring them to meet specific conditions and receive a special-use permit from City Council.

As Delaware Business Times reported in 2015, craft brewing and microbreweries are on the rise across the state.
