Delaware Bio, a trade group for the bioscience industry in the state, has awarded W.L. Gore and Associates Company of the Year.

The company was founded in 1958 in Newark by husband and wife Wilbert “Bill” and Genevieve “Vieve” Gore. Bill had just retired from a 16-year career at DuPont.

W.L. Gore employs about 10,000 people worldwide and has $3 billion in annual sales.

Its products run the gamut of industrial, consumer and medical applications. The company is perhaps best known for its trademark fabric, GORE-TEX®, a waterproof, windproof material often used for outerwear.

The awards gala will be held April 24 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the DuPont Country Club.
