OCEAN VIEW — Local insurance firm L&W Insurance has expanded in all three counties, including a recently built office in one of Delaware’s beach communities.

Earlier this month, the Dover-based firm cut the ribbon on its new office on 90 Atlantic Ave., the main road that runs from Dagsboro to Bethany Beach. L&W Insurance built the office in 2020, and quietly opened for business that year.

“L&W Insurance has built its respected reputation over the last 90 years through its unmatched insurance knowledge and commitment to client service. Even in the midst of evolving priorities for small businesses, being physically present for our clients will always be a priority and is a driving force in the recent location expansions,” L&W Insurance Director of Organizational Culture and Communications Chelsea Clark said.

L&W has 39 employees, with two working out of the Ocean View office full-time, although many agents split time between the Dover office and the beach office.

The firm was founded in 1932 as an independent agency to provide insurance for businesses and residents in the entire state. One of the founders, Davis Wood, took over as sole ownership in 1971. In 2005, Bill Strickland became the president of L&W Insurance.

In the years since, L&W’s service area has expanded into Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. L&W Insurance contracts with regional, national and specialty lines with insurance carriers to provide a broad base of options for risk management. The firm has two other offices, one in Dover and one in Wilmington. L&W Insurance is reportedly looking at a office in Greenville.

“We recognize, now more than ever, the importance of being rooted and physically accessible to all L&W clients. The Ocean View location allows our team to be physically available to our current clients and demonstrate our commitment to our future Sussex clients,” Clark added.
